Growing Plants and Creativity in P5: A Week of Learning and Fun

This week in P5 has been full of exciting discoveries and creative projects. Our students have seen the fruits of their gardening efforts come to life, explored the science of plants, built imaginative marble theme parks, practiced Japanese calligraphy, and welcomed new teachers. Here’s a look at the highlights from a week packed with learning and fun.

Watching Our Plants Grow

After weeks of care and attention, our garden is finally showing signs of success. The bitter melon and green bean plants have started to produce fruit and vegetables. This hands-on experience ties perfectly with our science lessons on flowering and fruiting plants. Students have been observing how flowers turn into fruits and how plants grow, making the science concepts more real and engaging.

Seeing the bitter melon’s unique shape and the green beans hanging from the vines sparked many questions and discussions. Students measured the growth, noted the changes, and shared their excitement about harvesting soon. This practical approach helps deepen their understanding of plant life cycles.

Building Marble Theme Parks

Creativity took center stage as students designed and built theme parks for marbles. Using paper, cardboard, and sticky tape, they crafted rides and tracks to send marbles on thrilling journeys. This activity encouraged problem-solving and teamwork as they figured out how to make the rides work smoothly.

Some groups created spirals, ramps, and tunnels, while others focused on making the rides as long and exciting as possible. The hands-on building process helped students apply physics concepts like gravity and motion in a fun, interactive way.

Exploring Japanese Calligraphy

In art class, students practiced Japanese calligraphy, learning about the beauty and precision of this traditional writing style. They experimented with brush strokes and ink, creating elegant characters on paper. Meeting New Teachers

The week also brought new faces to our school community. The students met the new students that have joined Gloabl Class AND the new Secondary Global Class teachers who will be teaching soon. This introduction helped ease any nerves and sparked curiosity about the next stage of their education. The new teachers shared a bit about themselves and their teaching styles, building a welcoming atmosphere.
