​Global Studies and Student Action Project (SAP)

 

Global studies is a subject which is unique to the Global Class at Hong Kong Japanese School. The Global studies course is an inquiry-led study program which offers our students the opportunity to develop modern global skills (research, presentation, discussion and analytical skills) as well as further their knowledge of the world issues and current affairs that are shaping contemporary society. Over the duration of the course students will study six topics (two topics per year).　Exhibition days are held in the end of the school year. Students do their own research and make an individual  presentation in English.

独自科目グローバルスタディーズは、国際的な問題や課題に対する知識や調査・分析力、プレゼンテーション力を高めることを目的とした探究型の学びです。グローバルクラスの3年間で、以下のような6つのトピックを児童自身が調査・分析し、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションをしていきます。また1年間のまとめとして3学期に自己探究発表会を英語で行っています。

  • Water is a limited resource  限られた資源としての水

  • Environment and sustainability　エネルギーと持続可能な社会

  • Innovation and technology and their influence　イノベーションテクノロジーとその影響

  • Government systems influence the lives of citizens　政府と人々の暮らし

  • Conflict and peace building　 紛争と平和構築 

  • Exhibition 自己探求発表会

 

 

​In order to become responsible global citizens, students need to be aware of the responsibility they have for making our world a better place for future generations. In light of this, Global Class students will be encouraged to take part in Student-Initiated Action Project (SAPs) in Global studies. Students will use the knowledge they have learnt and serve the wider school community through workshops, storytelling for lower grades and presentations, etc. Such projects also aim to help students to realize that what they learn in class can also be put to use in real life situations beyond the classroom and lead to them becoming life-long learners.

自分がこれからの社会に何をすることができるのか、またどのように行動していく責任があるのかを理解したグローバル市民になるためには、普段から自分の学びを他者と共有していくような活動が大切です。そこで、グローバルクラスでは、Student Action Project (SAP)という活動をグローバルスタディーズの中に設け、ワークショップや低学年へのストーリーテリング、プレゼンテーションを行うなどして、学び得た知識や調査結果を発信していきます。これによって、学びと実生活との結びつきを実感するとともに、社会への責任感と学び続ける姿勢が養われます。

Japanese ethos

 

As well as  following the Japanese National Curriculum,  the Global Class also participates in school wide events such as club, assembly, school fair and sports day with other classes. There are some events based on Japanese culture.

グローバルクラスは、日本の学習指導要領に従って学習を進めます。同時に、通常クラスと同様に、クラブ、集会、学校祭、運動会など数々の行事に参加することを通じ、日本文化にも多く触れる機会を設けます。また、学習規律を大切にした授業にも力を入れていきます。
