Another exciting week has passed at the Japanese International School (JIS), filled with hard work, learning, and fun activities that brought out the best in every student. This week, the students not only focused on their physical health but also explored their musical talents, showing impressive progress in both areas. Here’s a look at what made this week so special.

Physical Exam Week: Testing Strength and Agility

The students participated in a comprehensive physical exam that included a variety of tests designed to measure different aspects of their fitness. These tests included:

  • Flexibility: Students stretched and bent to see how limber they had become since last year.

  • Standing Jump: Measuring explosive leg power and coordination.

  • Grip Strength: Testing hand and forearm strength with a dynamometer.

  • Ball Distance Throw: Assessing upper body strength and coordination.

Each student gave their best effort, and the results showed clear improvement compared to last year’s scores. This progress suggests that the students have been maintaining healthy habits, including eating their vegetables and staying active. The physical exam week not only helped teachers understand each student’s physical development but also motivated the students to keep improving their fitness.

A Musical Journey with the Recorder and Guitar

Alongside physical activities, the week was filled with musical exploration. Under the guidance of their music teacher, students practiced playing the recorder, a key instrument in their music curriculum. They recorded themselves playing to identify areas where they could improve, which helped them develop a better sense of rhythm and tone.

In the classroom, many students asked Mr. Tomsett to play his guitar. This sparked a lively atmosphere where students tried their hand at playing and singing songs together. The combination of recorder practice and guitar sessions created a joyful environment that encouraged creativity and teamwork.

Encouraging Growth Through Practice and Play

The week at JIS demonstrated how balancing physical health and creative expression supports overall student development. The physical exam encouraged students to focus on their bodies and health, while the musical activities nurtured their artistic skills and confidence.

Teachers noticed that students were more engaged and motivated, showing that when learning is fun and varied, students thrive. The improvements in physical tests and musical skills are a testament to the students’ dedication and the supportive environment at JIS.

Looking Ahead

This week’s achievements remind us that growth happens in many forms. Whether it’s jumping farther, throwing stronger, or playing a new song, every step forward counts. The students at JIS are building strong foundations for a healthy and creative future.

Parents and teachers can encourage this progress by continuing to support healthy habits and creative activities at home. Celebrating these small victories helps students stay motivated and excited about learning.

The week at JIS was a clear example of how hard work, practice, and a positive attitude lead to meaningful growth. It’s inspiring to see young learners embrace challenges and enjoy the journey of discovery.
