This week, the students at HKJS Global Class showcased their hard work and dedication through their Student Action Project (SAP) presentations. The focus of this year's project centered on urgent global issues tied to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially showcasing "Environment and Sustainability" and the struggles of endangered animals.
The atmosphere was electric as parents, teachers, and students from various classes gathered to witness the presentations. While the students felt a bit nervous, their enthusiasm and genuine passion for the subject matter shone through, making the event a true success.
The Importance of Environment and Sustainability
The presentations underscored the critical necessity of environmental protection and sustainability. Students examined various topics, including the alarming rise in global temperatures, with reports showing an increase of approximately 1.5 # degrees Celsius since the late 19th century. They illustrated the dire consequences of pollution, noting that around 9 million people die each year due to pollution-related illnesses.
Focusing on endangered animals, the students drew attention to species at risk of extinction. For instance, they highlighted the plight of the Amur leopard, with only around 100 individuals remaining in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching. This alarming statistic not only educated their peers but also inspired everyone present to reflect on their personal environmental footprints.
A Collaborative Learning Experience
The SAP presentations were a showcase of teamwork. Students collaborated in teams, merging their knowledge and creativity to craft engaging presentations. This collaborative approach built a sense of community and encouraged them to support each other, boosting confidence as they spoke in front of an audience.
The involvement of parents and teachers enriched the experience. They cheered for the students and engaged in meaningful discussions about the topics presented. It was heartening to witness the school community rally together to nurture the next generation of environmental advocates.
Club Day: A Celebration of Creativity
In addition to the SAP presentations, Friday afternoon featured a vibrant Club Day. This event allowed students to explore their interests in a range of clubs. From the Ballgame Club and Science Club to the Drum Club and ICT Club, students expressed their creativity and passions in a lively and engaging environment.
Club Day also offered students a chance to unwind after their presentations. They connected with peers who shared similar interests, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging. The vibrant energy in the room was palpable as students participated in activities, showcasing their talents and learning from each other.
Reflection on the Future
The SAP presentations at HKJS Global Class were a remarkable demonstration of student empowerment and engagement with vital global issues. By shedding light on "Environment and Sustainability" and the realities faced by endangered animals, students not only expanded their own knowledge but also inspired their peers and community members.
Reflecting on this week’s events, it’s evident that initiatives like the SAP and Club Day play a crucial role in shaping future leaders. By fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment and promoting collaboration, we are nurturing a generation that is not only aware of global challenges but also equipped to take actionable steps in addressing them.
Let’s continue to stand behind our students as they work towards making a positive impact on the world!
