What variables can we change to dissolve substances such as alum and salt more easily?

P5G have been visiting the lab frequently in recent weeks, we have been testing many hypotheses and learning more and more about the solubility of substances and which variables change which reactions. Our most recent experiment involved changing the amount of water and raising the temperature of the water. Would the changes in these variables have any effect on a substances solubility?
