2019 - 2020 Year in Review

What a year it has been!

In Term 1, we welcomed a new group of P4-G students starting their journey in Global Class. Everyone got to know each other during GC assemblies and learned about literacy through the World’s Largest Lesson. The classes also embarked on their first school trips of the year: P4-G visited the Woodside Biodiversity Centre, Lamma Island and the Braemar Hill Fire Station. P5-G visited the EMSD and Lamma Winds. P6-G had a good time with the new P1s at the Jordan Valley Park. All the classes also worked hard to contribute towards the exciting exchange they shared with students in other schools in Hong Kong!

In 2018 – 2019, Term 2 was cut short because of the dangerous typhoon in Hong Kong. Fortunately, that did not happen this year. Unfortunately, the unrest and danger caused by the Hong Kong protests led to school closures again. As we witnessed history unfold in front of our eyes, teachers and students alike learned many things from the protests. Thankfully, Sports Day was still very successful and students enjoyed the Halloween activities at school. P6 students made everlasting memories on their Okinawa trip and met with local and Japanese civil servants, P5-G got the opportunity to visit Repulse Bay and the airplane hangars at HKG, and P4-G learned more about water at Ma On Shan Water Treatment Facility and the nearby Tai Tam Reservoir.

What can we say about Term 3? Once again, we watched history being made as the virus COVID-19 spread around the world. After the Chinese New Year holidays, the Hong Kong government closed schools again. The safety and wellbeing of all children and students are of the highest importance to educators, but we are all disappointed that the term had to be cut short. Even though teachers and students used LoiloNote to communicate and learn at home, it was barely enough. Furthermore, it was unfortunate and a disappointment to all that the P6 graduation ceremony had to be curtailed.

The 2019 – 2020 school year was eventful to say the least. Apart from discovering things from our lessons, teachers and friends at school, we all experienced things we have never even witnessed before. Everyone worked hard to adjust to these unforeseen circumstances. As we are all life-long learners, these tumultuous times give us the chance to improve and grow proactively to prepare better in the future. Let’s all work hard to think harder, take risks outside our comfort zone, be more open-minded, enhance our communication skills, inquire further and reflect deeper!

Congratulations to P6-G students on graduation! See you all next year and good luck to those who are leaving us!
